The first investment of the PSCRF

In the end of December 2006 we set off for Pulisan in North Sulawesi to visit our project partner Katrin Weise with the 290 Euro in our pockets, which we could collect with the PSCRF up to that time. The German ethnologist, living in this region already for 14 years, has already achieved many positive changes in the context of her local village development program. Together with her we decided as a first step to buy school books and school materials for the elementary school in Marinsow. Whole classes are taught with only a single set of books there most of the time. Pupils and teachers lack any kind of education materials and documents.

In the Gramedia bookstore in Manado we therefore bought two additional sets of the "Sains"-series for elementary school, several atlases, maps and illustrated dictionaries. Posters about the basic arithmetic operations, about the alphabet, the provinces, the endemic fauna a.s.o. finished up in our shopping bags as well. The whole purchase cost about 70 Euro. For the time being the books were taken into safe-keeping by Katrin, and later in the middle of January after the school holidays handed over to pupils and teachers.

There was great excitement in sighting the maps, display boards, books and games.

The remaining amount of money will be used together with another 220 Euro donations of the Freundeskreis Lembeh-Pulisan-Bangka for the renovation of the school. In this way the Marinsow elementary school will be equipped with new desks, blackboards and chests within 2007.
